Cisco has introduced solutions to enable service providers to deliver VPNs and announced the availability of Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol (L2TP) within Cisco IOS software for Access VPNs.

SARS` Choice

The South African Revenue Services has awarded Choice Technologies to install a cabling infrastructure and network electronics in its offices in KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, Free State, North West Province and the Northern Cape. The network, worth R12-million, will use more than 500 km of computer cabling, together with 16 000 electrical, 4000 data, and 2000 voice points and will carry both voice and data traffic. Choice Technologies is a 51% black-owned networking solutions company formed in a joint venture with the DNS Group.

Olicom gives workstation management app for free

Olicom Africa has released a new desktop management application designed to manage Olicom`s network interface cards and PC cards in a corporate network. Called LANscout, it is a free download from Olicom`s website.

Cisco announces new Packet-over-Sonet solutions

Cisco Systems announced a new Packet-over-Synchronous Optical Network/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SONET/SDH) port adapter for the Cisco 7500 and 7200 series routers. The new port adapter merges IP and SONET/SDH transport networking.

Cisco, PeopleSoft forge alliance

Cisco Systems and PeopleSoft said they have forged an alliance to speed the flow of critical PeopleSoft business information on Cisco networks. The two companies said they are developing new services and software to clear paths in congested networks for the information equivalent of "carpools lanes" - customer orders, payroll processing and financial reports. Cisco said its goal is to ensure that business-critical information gets priority over other forms of network traffic.

ANS announces multiple monitor videoconferencing solutions

Ariel Network Solutions (ANS) is supporting the addition of double or triple monitors for the VCON MediaConnect Series product line. This will enable users to view full-screen remote and local video on separate 29" SVGA or NTSC/PAL monitors, and data on a 29" SVGA monitor.

Migration to Fast Ethernet easy with new hubs

Broadening its range of LAN solutions for small to medium businesses, SMC Networks has introduced two new Fast Ethernet hubs. The devices are part of the EZ Hub 100 family and have a low cost per port.

EMC to support HP, Sun fibre channel hubs

EMC has extended the fibre channel connectivity in its Symmetrix range to Sun and HP fibre channel hubs. EMC said companies with mixed IT platforms can now take full advantage of the emerging fibre channel standard.
