Microsoft, Cisco, Hewlett Packard and Blue Sky Networks today launched a joint initiative to bring complete IT solutions to medium-sized organisations. Named SOLution, the initiative will be rolled out nationwide over the next few months. Rob Abraham, MD of Blue Sky Networks, said the four companies, working together, have all the ingredients to deliver a wining IT solution to every corporate in South Africa and beyond. The IT quartet said it will market and sell to corporates directly through the Blue Sky Networks sales team.

ANS offering dedicated ATM access solution

Ariel Networking Solutions has announced it will be offering RAD`s ACE-101, a dedicated solution for carriers seeking end-to-end control and monitoring of their public ATM networks.

Cisco announces multiservice ATM switch routers

Cisco Systems announced the modular Catalyst 8510 and Catalyst 8540 Multiservice ATM switch router (MSR) series for enterprise networks. The new platform has voice and video support and the ability to integrate routed and switched 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet ports in a single platform.

ANS appointed systems integrator for RAD

Israeli data communications company RAD said it has appointed Ariel Network Solutions (ANS) as a Systems Integrator for the southern African region. ANS will focus on a number of strategic product lines including E1/T1 access products, ATM access products, sub E1/T1 multiplexers and baseband modems.

3Com said the US Navy has certified its ATM core and edge switches for participation in IT-21 (Information Technology for the 21st Century), the Navy`s initiative to upgrade networked communications and data delivery in its fleets and shore-based facilities using commercially-available technologies.

3Com unveils full line of multi-user and single-user ADSL DMT products

3Com announced its ITU G.dmt and G.lite CPE ADSL strategy encompassing solutions for small and home businesses, telecommuters and consumers who need an ultra-speed Internet connection. Also unveiled are the OfficeConnect Remote 811 ADSL router, the internal US Robotics PCI ADSL modem, and the external US Robotics USB ADSL bringing a high-speed ADSL connections of up to 8 Mbps. 3Com said its G.dmt ADSL products offer users full-rate ADSL implementation today and the ability to migrate to the evolving G.lite specification later this year.

Consumer Credit outsources to DNS

Consumer Credit Corporation has appointed DNS (KwaZulu-Natal) to upgrade the local area network systems at its 11 branches nation-wide and link them via leased lines to its Durban-based head office. The entire infrastructure will be monitored through DNS Remote Management Centre (RMC) in Johannesburg.

Novell announces `Directory-enabled` logo programme

Novell will in future be naming qualified software and hardware products from outside developers, including LDAP applications, as "Directory-enabled". This means they are compatible with the newest version of Novell Directory Services, NDS 8.

Novell offers ZEN

Novell, a network and intranet operating systems provider, announced the release of Zero Effort Networks (ZENworks), a systems management software product. Using Novell Directory Services (NDS), ZENworks is able to automate application deployment and offers integrated, directory based management, said Stafford Masie, Business Development Manager of Novell SA, at a press conference. ZENworks will be a standard feature of Novell`s NetWare 5 which will become available from 30 July 1998.
