Lotus takes new tack on server licensing
In line with feedback stating customers should pay only for what they use, Lotus Development is revamping its Domino server pricing and licensing models and consolidating the product line.
The move, centered on client access licenses (CALs) for Domino, is designed to simplify payment for server access depending on need.
For companies wanting to access the server simply for mail, there is one CAL; for those needing to offer groupware and application access, there is another. There is no change to existing Notes client pricing though, as it offers both levels, explained Steve Ayres, Lotus/IBM partner sales manager.
