Madge opens door on Token Ring strategy

Madge has announced details of its High Speed Token Ring (HSTR) strategy together with its full endorsement of the new HSTR Alliance. Nick Hughes, Madge Africa technical manager, said HSTR will enable users to scale their Token Ring speed to 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps and beyond without having to change the existing Token Ring infrastructure. He said Madge had committed to deliver a complete HSTR product line during the second half of this year.

Bay Networks: Leader in Fast Ethernet switching

According to a recent survey conducted by the Dell`Oro Group, Bay Networks has 40% share in the world workgroup Fast Ethernet switching market. Bay said it beat closest rival 3Com by 11 percentage points in revenue share. This is attributed to record shipments of BayStack 350 10/100 switch, which has more than one million installed ports. More than 20 000 of these ports were installed in South Africa, Bay said.
